Female Reproductive System: An Overview

To reproduce means to make another living being of the same kind.  For a woman, specifically, the reproductive system is central to creating human life keeping the human species alive. The reproductive system is a system of internal and external organs including the vagina, the ovaries, the fallopian tubes and the uterus that work together to reproduce by carrying out several functions.  To start, the female reproductive system produces the female eggs necessary for reproduction and transports these eggs (through the fallopian tubes) to the site of fertilization so that it can implant the fertilized egg in the uterus which begins the initial phases of pregnancy. If this fertilization and/or implantation does not occur, the female reproductive system will release the egg naturally during the monthly process of menstruation.

Around 50 years of age, when a woman enters menopause, the female reproductive system gradually stops making the female hormones necessary for the reproductive cycle to work.
